Executive Summary
GE Medical Systems has made three acquisitions aimed at strengthening its image-guided surgery business and its medical information systems unit. GEMS is to buy Visualization Technology (VTI), a pioneer in electromagnetic-based image-guided surgery and it has bought Surgical Insights, which develops image-guided surgery (IGS) software for orthopaedics. At the same time, GE Medical Systems Information Technology (GEMSIT) is to buy iPath, which develops surgery information management software. No financial terms were disclosed.
