£200 million to further reduce UK bed-blocking:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The UK government has confirmed it is to spend £200 million ($288 million) in 2002-03 towards ending unnecessary delays in discharging patients from hospitals - so-called "bed-blocking" - by April 2004, as set out in the NHS Plan. The money is part of a £300 million two-year package announced last October (see Clinica No 979, p 8). The government is aiming to free 1,000 NHS beds by the end of March 2002, and a further 2,300 in the following year.
