Executive Summary
The World Health Organization has published the results of what it claims is the largest ever collaborative study on cardiovascular disease (CVD). The Monitoring Cardiovascular Disease Monograph (MONICA) maps the incidence, trends and risk factors associated with heart disease and stroke among 38 populations in 21 countries, between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. Its development was used to support the introduction of new technologies and to monitor healthcare policies in the countries involved.
