Executive Summary

Arcomed Medical Systems has acted swiftly to contain potential problems stemming from a fault in the software of its Syramed SP6000 syringe pump. The fault was discovered by Arcomed on September 26 2003 and, according to a UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) device alert of October 1, can result in over-infusion. The situation was brought under control worldwide thanks to the efficiency and speed of an albeit small company, one of its co-directors told Clinica.
