Executive Summary
The French healthcare products safety agency, AFSSAPS, has published a review of all blood pressure monitors available in France intended for use by the patients themselves under supervision of the physician. Alarmed by the findings of the First International Consensus Conference on Self-Blood Pressure Monitoring, published in 2000, which noted that few devices on the market met the necessary clinical validation criteria, the agency began its own review in 2001, in conjunction with the French Society for Arterial Hypertension. The review focuses on the reliability of the metrology data both from information supplied by the manufacturers and distributors and through independent technical tests. The list is available on the AFSSAPS website at: http://afssaps.sante.fr.htm/5/tensio.htm
