Executive Summary
There is no evidence of a cost explosion in the German health service, but financial restructuring is necessary if the current statutory-based system (GKV) is to survive. This is the conclusion of a report published last week by the expert advisory committee for concerted action in the health service (SKAG) and is line with a similar conclusion drawn recently by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) (see Clinica No 1046, p 6).
