Executive Summary

Peter Homa has been appointed shadow chief inspector of the Commission for Healthcare Audit and Inspection (CHAI), to lead the work in establishing the new body. Subject to the necessary legislation, CHAI is due to become operational in April 2004, taking over four healthcare standards bodies in England and Wales, including the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI), of which he is chief executive.
