The ongoing reforms of Brazil's healthcare administration are set to receive a boost from the appointment of Valdi Camarcio Bezerra as president of the national healthcare foundation, Funasa. Dr Camarcio aims to consolidate the process of reform by which Funasa is being "adapted to act as co-ordinator, regulator and technical advisor at state and municipal level for the national health system (SUS)", the health ministry has announced. "Funasa will be fully integrated into the [healthcare development] projects pledged by president Lula da Silva," he has promised.
