Some of Scotland's microbiological services must be improved in order to meet the standards of healthcare-associated infection control set out three years ago. So says the 2004 National Progress Report published by NHS Quality Improvement Scotland, referring to the requirement to provide "timely and effective microbiological support for the infection control service".
