China needs to invest in rapid HIV tests to identify and monitor the 840,000 citizens that are suspected to be carrying the disease. That was the opinion of David Ho, a US AIDS expert, when he met deputy health minister Wang Longde, earlier this month on a visit to China. At present only 7.4% of the population that is suspected of carrying the disease is registered and is being monitored, according to the Chinese People's Daily.
