The UK's DoH has appointed seven new members to the Human Genetics Commission (HGC). They are: Dr Frances Flinter, clinical genetics expert at King's College, London, and Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust; Professor Christopher Higgins, director of the Medical Research Council's Clinical Sciences Centre; general practitioner Dr Rosemary Leonard; Lola Oni, a specialist nurse in sickle cell, thalassaemia and related conditions; community services company MD Alice Maynard; medical and family sociology expert, Professor Sarah Cunningham-Burley; and management consultant Ros Gardner. The HGC advises government on current and potential developments in human genetics, the likely impact on health and healthcare and the social, ethical, legal and economic implications.
