The current Iraqi healthcare budget "is not nearly enough to cover the needs" of the healthcare sector, the US civil administrator, Paul Bremer, admitted this week. Despite the Coalition Provisional Authority having almost doubled the healthcare budget from $500m on May 1 2003, to $950m for 2004, the health service has failed to realise any significant improvements, doctors at the Iraqi Medical Speciality Conference (IMSC) in Baghdad said.
