Executive Summary
The first long-term randomised trial to be conducted of Osteotech's demineralised bone matrix (DBM) has shown that it is as effective as an autograft for repairing the spine. The prospective study of 120 patients showed that the combination of the Eatontown, New Jersey firm's Grafton DBM gel with one third the amount of autograft was equivalent to the use of the autograft alone for lumbar spine fusions. The research will be published in the March issue of Spine.
