Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Vital Images, which specialises in disease screening, diagnostic and therapy planning imaging software, is to acquire HInnovation, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based software firm. Vital Images will pay $12m up front, in equal parts of stock and cash, plus $6m in cash/stock milestones related to revenue generation, product development and intellectual property. HInnovation's technology enables doctors to use PCs or notebooks to access 2D, 3D and 4D medical imaging applications securely over the internet. Vital Images will assimilate the HInnovation products into its Vitrea product line.
