The UK's Health Protection Agency handled 9,100 cases of communicable diseases per month, on average, as part of its routine work programme in 2004-05. Its annual report also highlights the 2,500 special incidents and outbreaks handled last year by its regional offices. Among its greatest achievements was winning a E32m ($39m) European Commission grant for "the largest ever TB initiative".
