PhotoMedex has seen another US healthcare insurer adopt a reimbursement policy covering psoriasis laser treatments using the company's Xtrac system. UnitedHealthcare, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, joins several other insurers including Aetna, Cigna and various branches of Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans - all of which have agreed to reimburse medically necessary treatment of mild to moderate psoriasis using the PhotMedex Xtrac laser system. It is believed that around 7 million individuals in the US are affected by psoriasis and an estimated 150,000 to 260,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
