Orthopaedics-focused New York merchant bank HealthpointCapital has acquired Alphatec Manufacturing, a firm that specialises in the manufacture and sale of spinal fusion implants and instruments. The Carlsbad, California-based company co-develops its products with surgeons. "Substantial funding will allow for expanded manufacturing capacity, inventories, infrastructure and staffing in all functions," said John Foster, HealthpointCapital's chairman and CEO. Mr Foster becomes chairman and CEO of Alphatec, while its founder Shunshiro Yoshimi remains involved with the firm, which employs 100 people.
