Executive Summary
Some 50-60% of hospital equipment in Ukraine is thought to be out of date, according to German experts speaking this week ahead of the sixth UkraineMedica exhibition (Kiev, October 17-20). The local demand for new devices and the potential for the growth of the local medtech market offer opportunities for exporters, says Berlin-based industry association Spectaris. Ukraine's imports of medtech equipment, instruments and apparatus totalled Euro200m ($250m) in 2005. Germany accounts for an increasing amount of this; it had a 15% share last year, and its exports rose by 5.3% in the first half of 2006. Radiology, ultrasound, MRI and prostheses are among the main medtech imports product groups.
