Executive Summary
Orthofix International has completed its $333m acquisition of Blackstone Medical, the Springfield, Massachusetts maker of spinal fusion products and biologics. The combined group has growth of around 25% and expects revenues of $260m in 2007. Blackstone is launching four new spinal fusion products at the North American Spine Society meeting that began on September 26 in Seattle, Washington. They are a minimally-invasive retractor system, a cervical plating system, a lumbar fixation plate and a system of modular vertebral implants in incremental sizes.
