Minneapolis, Minnesota-based urology company American Medical Systems (AMS) is nearer to closing its $715m acquisition of medical lasers developer Laserscope after the transaction was cleared by US antitrust authorities. The completion of the acquisition is still subject to other approvals including that of company shareholders. Laserscope, of San Jose, California, agreed to merge with AMS in June 2006 (see Clinica No 1209, p 16).
