Singapore's initiatives to strengthen its biomedical sector (BMS) in 2005 have paid off with strong growth in the sector. The medical technology output lags behind pharmaceuticals, which accounted for 88% of the total growth, but grew 10.6% to reach S$2.1bn (US$1.2bn); medtech also claimed 62% of the 10,200 jobs in the BMS manufacturing sector.
