Executive Summary
Australia is to conduct an independent review into the outcome of an increase in competition in its plasma fractionation services (the separation of blood plasma into a number of proteins for medical use). Requirements to ensure the safety, quality and efficacy of plasma products and services will also be identified by the review. Philip Flood, former secretary of the department of foreign affairs and trade, and former Australian high commissioner to the UK, will chair the review committee, which will present its findings to the government by January 1 2007.
