Executive Summary
Canada's eastern prairie province of Manitoba is to invest Can$1m (US$870,000) in a pilot project on the use of "electronic order entry software", which will assist physicians in selecting appropriate diagnostic imaging tests. The two-year project, which will take place at the Children's Hospital in Winnipeg, aims to cut some of the 3.5 million unnecessary and inappropriate tests that are performed annually. The Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) hopes the software will eventually be used nationwide.
