B Braun, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, has launched its Contiplex Stim stimulating catheter nerve block system in the US and Canada. The device is intended to provide continuous or intermittent perineural infusion of local anaesthetics or analgesics near a nerve in a procedure called regional nerve blockade, or nerve block. It delivers regional anaesthesia and pain management before, during and after general and orthopaedic surgery, and is designed to be easily visible under ultrasound. The device will be available in the US and Canada in January 2008.
