Venture-backed surgical robotics specialist Prosurgics has acquired the intellectual property and assets of Berlin-based Schaerer Mayfield Technologies (SMT), a developer of software and hardware for the image-guided surgery market. The acquisition will enable Prosurgics to introduce a new technology platform for image-guided surgical planning, called GuideLine, to the market in early 2008. Prosurgics, which has operations in the UK and the US, said it will retain SMT's staff and facilities in Berlin to build itself a commercial base in Germany. SMT was the subsidiary of Swiss company Schaerer Mayfield Imaging.
