Executive Summary
The Spanish region of Extremadura is to extend the upper age range of its breast screening programme and is considering a similar extension of the lower threshold. Initially, the former will be extended by five years to 70, in a move that will add some 33,000 women to the call-up group, and require the support of mobile screening units, said the regional health service (SES). The lower age threshold may be reduced from 50 to 45 years - screening is already offered in this age group to women with a family history.
