Executive Summary
SuperStitch EL, the suturing device developed by Sutura (Fountain Valley, California) has been used successfully in early studies to close a patent foramen ovale (PFO), raising the possibility that its indications could be expanded. Currently available in the EU and US for vascular stitching in general surgery, the device has now been shown to be capable of suturing shut a PFO in an explanted porcine heart in two trials, one conducted in London, UK, and another in California. Sutura's chairman and CSO, Dr Anthony Nobles, said that human testing would provide further data.
