Executive Summary
Germany's research and education ministry (BMBF) is making available E25m ($33m) in grants over the next three years to projects that focus on innovations in the orthobiologics field of bioactive implants. The BMBF says the convergence of pharma/biotech and devices is leading to more combination products and biodevices, such as drug-eluting stents, coated catheters and bone and soft tissue implants. The grants are available under the ministry's WING biomaterials innovation programme and its Nano-initiative action plan 2010. Applications are to be made by August 15 2007. See: www.bmbf.de
