Evanston, Illinois-based Northfield Laboratories, producer of the Polyheme oxygen-carrying red blood cell substitute, has appointed its regulatory consultant Richard Newman to an in-house "leadership role" for the activity. Outgoing regulatory head Eva Essig has moved to the pharma industry. Dr Newman spent more than 25 years at Procter and Gamble, GD Searle, and Baxter Healthcare, where he served in the renal division as vice-president from 1992-2002.
