"Invest in health, build a safer future" is the theme of this year's World Health Day, which is being observed on April 2. Activities organised around that date aim to highlight the healthcare demands posed by new and existing diseases, from pandemic influenza to HIV/AIDS, and their potential, wider economic and social impact globally. "Although the burden can be greater for the developing world, epidemic-prone diseases are a growing threat to all nations," said Dr Mirta Roses, director-general of the Pan-American Health Organization.
