Executive Summary
Angiotech Pharmaceuticals' Quill SRS (self-retaining system) family of sutures have been approved in Brazil. The approval covers two absorbable sutures called Quill SRS polydioxanone (PDO) and Quill SRS Monoderm and two non-absorbable sutures, one made of polypropylene and one of nylon. The sutures have a patented helical barb design which eliminates the need for knots to hold them in place. The Monoderm and PDO sutures received US FDA 510(k) approval in August 2007 (see Clinica No 1270, p 18). Vancouver, Canada-based Angiotech has also launched the Quill sutures in Europe and Canada.
