Executive Summary
The UK's Department of Health has published the national renal dataset (NRD) that will be used to support implementation of the national service framework for renal services. The DH said it will begin notifying NHS trusts and information system providers of the changes imminently. The NRD will be implemented in two phases, with 693 data items to be collected from May 2009 and a further 188 from April 2011. The NRD sets out the specification of information to be collected by NHS renal services to help "assess their achievement of the quality standards and to improve kidney care for patients", said the DH.
