Varian names Whitman to new senior policy development role

Varian Medical Systems (Palo Alto, California) has appointed Andrew Whitman as vice-president of government affairs. The position is newly-created and Mr Whitman is to be based in Washington, DC. His primary remit is to “develop and implement global government affairs and public policy initiatives” particularly in relation to fighting cancer. Mr Whitman joins from the medical imaging and technology alliance (a division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association), of which he was president. Varian manufactures radiotherapy and radiosurgical devices and software.
