In a bid to streamline its operations and focus on homeland security, Implant Sciences (Wakefield, Massachusetts) has entered an agreement to divest its discontinued brachytherapy products segment to medtech manufacturer Best Medical. Springfield, Virginia-based Best will make an initial payment of $100,000 to Implant Sciences on the closing of the deal, followed by additional $100,000 and $200,000 payments, 30 and 60 days after the closing, respectively. The purchase is expected to close by September 18 2008. This deal is in line with Implant Sciences’ goal to withdraw from the medical and semiconductor markets.
