Executive Summary
Microscopic imaging specialist MetaSystems is to develop a new automated imaging system for cytology slides, in a co-development partnership with fellow German firm mtm laboratories. As part of the deal, the two Heidelberg-based firms will incorporate mtm’s CINtec cytology products into the new technology. According to mtm, the CINtec kit is a qualitative, immunocytochemical assay for the evaluation of the biomarker 16INK4A, an indicator of the cervical disease. The new system will use CINtec and MetaSystems’ Metafer slide scanning and imaging platform to achieve equal or better sensitivity and specificity, and greater efficiency, compared to manual observation of cytology slides. The agreement may also lead to a co-promotion deal if a product is successfully brought to market. Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
