Three hospitals in Minnesota will have to pay $2.28m to the US government to settle allegations of fraud against the Medicare system. They allegedly performed a spinal procedure, kyphoplasty, on patients on an inpatient rather than outpatient basis in order to seek greater reimbursement from Medicare and make larger profits on the surgery.
