UK DH enlists SHAs for more progress on "slow" dental reforms

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The UK's Department of Health (DH) has acknowledged that "progress on improving access [to dental services] has been disappointing to date". In an interim response issued today to the House of Commons' health select committee (HSC) July 2008 report on the issue, the DH said it was confident that it could build on the reforms in place to maximise their intended benefits. It said that it is working with the Strategic Health Authorities to "agree the high-impact changes that will most rapidly improve access to NHS dentistry". This is due to be completed by the end of the year, by when the DH expects to be in a position to announce further actions.
