DMEPOS competitive bid program delayed

This article was originally published in The Gray Sheet

Executive Summary

CMS finalizes a delay of its Medicare competitive bidding program for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (DMEPOS) until April 18, 2009, after receiving approximately 550 comments between Feb. 10 and Feb. 13 - all in favor of a delay - according to a Feb. 19 Federal Register notice ("1The Gray Sheet" Feb. 16, 2009, p. 19). CMS says it appreciates commenters' concerns about the program, is reviewing issues of law and policy surrounding it, and will allow the public until March 17 to submit comments "on the substantive policy issues" that the DMEPOS competitive bidding program raises
