Summit Technology: Firm's Apex Plus excimer laser workstation with Emphasis laser disc enters clinicals for treatment of hyperopia via laser in situ keratomileusis. Summit expects twenty investigators to perform hyperopic LASIK on up to 2,000 eyes under the CRS LASIK Study Expansion for Hyperopia. The Apex Plus, "in conjunction with the appropriate Emphasis laser disc," can treat all common refractive disorders "without any need for hardware upgrades," the company says. Summit expects to submit "PMA applications to FDA for approval of the Apex Plus excimer laser workstation with Emphasis laser discs [for] treatment of hyperopia and astigmatism, and associated combinations, within the first half of 1998"...
