Executive Summary
SEN. GRASSLEY LIKELY TO CHAIR SENATE SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON AGING following the departure of Sen. William Cohen (R-Maine), who announced Jan. 16 that he will not seek re-election in November. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) is currently the third-ranking majority member of the Aging Committee, behind Sen. Larry Pressler (R-S.D.); however, assuming the GOP retains control of the Senate, Pressler will remain chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee and is thus prevented from also heading the Aging panel.
