Abbott Laboratories/SmithKline Diagnostics: Firms reach multi-year deal whereby SmithKline, a subsidiary of Beckman Instruments, agrees to manufacture for Abbott its FlexSure serum-based immunophotographic assay. Abbott will sell and distribute the diagnostic test to physicians and hospitals under the tradename FlexPack HP. SmithKline hopes that Abbott's sales will help increase physician acceptance of the product.
