CT, MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING RECOMMENDED FOR DETECTION OF SPINAL TUMOR, infection, fracture or other lesions that may be related to low back problems, according to the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research clinical practice guideline on acute low back problems in adults. "CT, MRI, myelography, or CT-myelography and/or consultation with an appropriate specialist is recommended when clinical findings strongly suggest tumor, infection, fracture or other space-occupying lesions of the spine," the guideline states. The document was released by AHCPR at a Dec. 8 press conference in Washington, D.C.
