Executive Summary
Defense technology company Loral enters a definitive agreement with Siemens Medical Systems to acquire Siemens Gammasonics. Gammasonics, with about 100 employees, is focused on the "development of software and related products" for picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Gammasonics will remain located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and will be renamed Loral Medical Imaging Systems. Gammasonics has provided software as a subcontractor to Loral for its Medical Diagnostic Imaging System contract for U.S. military hospitals. MDIS, which Loral eventually wants to market in the private sector, "electronically digitalizes, processes, stores and distributes" radiological images, Loral says
