Executive Summary
Firm begins full-scale launch of its automated peritoneal dialysis system in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. The product uses pneumatic pressure to create a gravity emulation system that eliminates the need for elevated bags in the measurement and movement of PD solution. HomeChoice has been available on a limited basis since receiving FDA 510(k) clearance in March ('The Gray Sheet" May 23, p. 8). Baxter anticipates being able to fully meet demand for the VCR-sized unit by mid-fall. The company says that HomeChoice will cost about the same as PacXtra, the company's current APD system. Approximately 450 patients have used the product during the limited release, including about 250 in the U.S
