Executive Summary
National Institutes of Health will hold a consensus development conference on total hip replacement Sept. 12-14 in Bethesda, Maryland. Issues to be addressed by the consensus panel of experts include: current indications for total hip replacement; design and surgical concerns; "responses of the biological environment"; "expected outcomes'; acceptable "approaches and outcomes for revision" of a THR; and directions for future research.
