Executive Summary
Trauma patients who have internal bleeding or are in shock are administered either IV fluid or blood, but the necessary volume of fluid replacement can’t be determined until blood samples are analyzed for metabolic parameters. Reflectance Medical Inc. has developed a noninvasive monitor that combines a muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2) and muscle pH (pHm) sensor to determine optimal replacement volumes in real time.
