Executive Summary
Direct Flow Medical, a company developing a catheter system to replace aortic valves in patients that are not healthy enough to undergo open heart surgery, has raised $40mm of a potential $42.5mm Series C venture round. An undisclosed strategic investor led the financing and was joined by current shareholders EDF Ventures, J&J Development Corp., New Leaf Venture Partners, Spray Venture Partners, ePlanet Venture Partners, Foundation Medical Partners, VantagePoint Venture Partners, and four other backers. The company will use the proceeds for more clinical trials in hopes of getting its prosthetic aortic valve on the European market by 2011.
