Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee told Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on the first day of confirmation hearings Tuesday they will question his rulings on abortion and women’s reproductive rights, and on retaining federal insurance coverage for people with preexisting conditions under Obamacare. As the potential conservative swing vote on the high court, Kavanaugh’s decisions can impact sales of contraceptive devices and medtech to treat heart disease, cancer, diabetes and an array of other preexisting conditions.

In Lead Up To Kavanaugh Confirmation, Opposition Cites Judge’s Stance On Reproductive Issues, Health Care

Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court bid is being questioned by Democratic Senators – and by some lawmakers sitting on the Senate’s Judiciary Committee – due to his positions on reproductive rights and health care, including policies regarding coverage of preexisting conditions that medtech firms support. On Aug. 24, Judiciary panel Democrats called for postponement of his planned Sept. 4 confirmation hearing, in part because Kavanaugh has said in the past that a sitting US president should not be investigated for criminal charges.

Medtech Groups To Blitz Congress Before Expected House Device Tax Vote

After Minnesota Congressman Erik Paulsen seemed to confirm plans for a floor vote on the medical device excise tax repeal before August, medical device lobby groups say they are rallying to get the deal done before it gets pushed off the agenda by the upcoming US Supreme Court nomination process.
