Executive Summary
Intuitive Surgical Q2: Sales for da Vinci robotic surgical system maker increased 13% to $247 million in the second quarter, driven by a 52% growth in procedures, the firm reported July 22. Intuitive sold 76 da Vinci systems in the quarter, including 47 da Vinci S.I. systems. S.I., launched in the first quarter and features improved vision, an enhanced user interface and dual console capability, according to the company. With the slowdown in spending by hospitals, Intuitive is not providing a sales forecast for the remainder of 2009, but says it expects overall procedure growth to exceed 45%.
