FDA responds to drug-eluting stent concerns: Agency announces public meeting of the Circulatory System Devices Advisory Panel by year-end to address mounting concerns about late stent thrombosis prompted by the release of new data at the European Society of Cardiology/World Congress of Cardiology meeting in Barcelona this month and the American College of Cardiology scientific sessions in Atlanta in March. FDA aims to deepen understanding of late stent thrombosis and gauge correct duration of antiplatelet-drug regimens for drug-eluting stent recipients. Still, FDA stands by the safety and efficacy of the Cypher (J&J/Cordis) and Taxus (Boston Scientific) drug-eluting stents when used for approved indications.
